(Friday) Helen, GA to Chattanooga, TN The sky is overcast; rain is on its way so it's time to head home (let alone we've just about had enough motorcycling for one week).
We start out with a little fog (reminiscent of the first day) but the temperature is warm by the standards set earlier this week. We run through Wolf Pen Gap, over to Suches and then head towards Chattanooga. Just a few twists and turns to end the trip on.
We get the bikes back onto the trailer and are heading south before noon; tonight we stay in Baton Rouge. The rain? It hit about 100 miles south of Chattanooga but using windshield wipers instead of Aerostitch finger squeegies makes the trip a lot less of a chore.
Notes from 1277 miles in the saddle:
Garmin Zumo 550: Excellent!!!!
Horsepower is good but torque rules; having both is just icing on the cake.
A second gear pass is a thing of beauty
The V6 RAV4 averaged almost 17 MPG pulling 2500# of bikes and trailer at 70 MPH
My 1200 Bandit got almost 52 MPG at one gas stop; mileage for both bikes was generally in the upper 40s.
Smaller family run hotels are always a better pace to stay.

Here's what our rear tires looked like after a week in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
